More New Friends in The Netherlands.

My computer hasn't been working while we were in London so I wasn't able to update my blog but we have been busy. Last Wednesday, we took the train to Groningen to meet up with Marijke and her DH, Chris. We hadn't met before but met via my blog as Marijke has been a reader for a while and she has even sent quilt tops to me to finish and donate. It was lovely to finally meet after writing since 2009. Chris and Marijke met us at the station and took us home for a delicious lunch. Marijke, I must ask Chris for the recipe for his chicken soup as it was lovely. He was a chef in his working life and he is still very good. After lunch they took us for a drive around their beautiful countryside. We were able to see the canals, the windmills and the locks which adjust the river height with the tides.
It was a lovely day in the country and we even visited their allotment where Chris grows beautiful vegetables. I still can't believe that they never have to water them as it is so different to where we are in Australia. It was a lovely day and the rain held off until we caught the train back to Amsterdam. We really enjoyed our time in Holland and Ray agreed that meeting people and hearing about different countries is more interesting than just seeing buildings. He is just amazed at how many lovely quilters we have met and that it feels like we have known each other much longer.
Thank you Marijke and Chris for our lovely experience of your countryside.
Hugs, Jan Mac
